Nigerian Music Producer Sets New World Record With 96-Hour Recording Marathon

Published by

Nigerian music producer Idem Abasifreke has set a new world record for the longest recording session, logging an incredible 95 hours and 59 minutes at Beatisblaak Studio. This marathon session, which kicked off on February 10, was just shy of four full days, surpassing the previous record of 40 hours and 19 minutes, set in Nigeria in 2022.

Driven by a desire to cement his legacy as a music producer while giving a platform to rising singing and rapping talents, Abasifreke reflected on the journey: “Seeing the joy on the faces of the artists and their excitement to record for an hour each day brought fresh music and vibes. I was happy, but constantly praying for success.”

Throughout the session, Abasifreke and the artists were allowed just five-minute breaks per hour, but what made this feat even more remarkable was that he did it all without a drop of caffeine. “As a music producer, I’m used to working around the clock,” he explained. Despite the grueling challenge, he stayed alert without any stimulants.

However, the toughest part of the challenge, he revealed, was managing the finances and keeping the studio’s power system running for nearly four days straight. “Electricity was a big challenge. It kept coming and going, and our Wi-Fi data was running slow because of the number of people using it.”

Originally, the team aimed to hit a 100-hour milestone, but the timer unexpectedly stopped at 96 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds. Despite this, Abasifreke remains overjoyed with the accomplishment. “It’s a dream come true. I’m still surprised and so happy,” he said.
