Alex Temple Ward is an American actor, singer, podcaster, and swimmer mostly known as the husband of recently deceased actor Gavin Creel.
Gavin Creel was a Tony winning actor, singer and songwriter mostly known for his work in Hello, Dolly!, and Waitress.
Creel was tragically reported dead on Monday, September 30, 2024 after passing away at his home in Manhattan. He was 48.
His death was announced by his partner Alex Temple Ward via a publicist, Matt Polk. His cause of death was a rare and aggressive form of cancer known as metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma.
He was diagnosed in July 2024 and underwent treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering.
“As an award-winning Broadway star, he brought irrepressible verve, passion, and boundless energy to his onstage roles while devoting his offstage time to advocacy and community-building,” Polk said.

Career
After a successful swimming career and receiving his undergraduate degree, Ward started out as an actor, interning for three years at the Clarence Brown Theatre in Knoxville.
He received training at Circle in the Square Theatre School with current New York professionals such as Sara Lazarus, Alan Langdon, Ken Schatz, and Sybil Lines.
Ward has performed with many theatre companies including the Palace Theatre in Manchester NH, the Theatre Workshop of Nantucket in Nantucket MA, and the Hemlock Theatre Company in Staten Island NY.
He served as a maninstage performer for the Disney Cruise Line in Orlando fulltime for close to a year in 2016/7 and then joined the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival.
Alex Temple Ward served as a soloist with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, and appeared in the Wizard of Oz with the Starlight Theatre in Kansas City MO. For close to two years between 2021 and 2023, he was Master Swim Instructor for Equinox.
Finally, Ward has his own podcast, The Last Refuge, that he has been producing since July 2017. According to his bio, he enjoys drinking coffee in Hamilton Heights, recording his podcast, and is currently on a search to find the “best piece of pizza in New York City.”
