I’ve Committed an Unforgivable Crime” – Afia Pokua Laments After Apology to Asantehene Rejected

Afia Pokua, a journalist at Agoo TV, found herself at the center of a controversy after she openly criticised the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his perceived silence amid ongoing conflicts between Ashantis and other tribes.

Speaking on Onua FM’s ‘Bribi Gye Gye wo,’ hosted by Mona Gucci, Pokua expressed her frustration, calling out what she sees as Ashantis asserting superiority over other tribes and the Asantehene’s failure to address it.

She received intense backlash following her recent visit to the Manhyia Palace, where she attempted to apologise for previous remarks that were viewed as disrespectful to the Asantehene.

However, her apology was rejected, and she was asked to leave, with instructions not to return. Even the support of elders who advocated for her was not enough to convince the Otumfuo’s representative to forgive her.

In a sad post following the rejection of her apology, Afia Pokua wrote, “Let Ghana and Ghanaians celebrate when they hear about my passing, as I have committed an unforgivable crime. I understand if I am to be buried alive for the satisfaction of Ghanaian citizens.” These words reflect the emotional toll she felt from the continuous criticism, despite her efforts to make amends.
