Sumego’s death occurred on Friday, September 27th, 2024. No cause of death was given but several friends and family hinted he took his own life in various social media posts.

“It is with great sadness that we share the loss of Blake Sumego, a beloved senior at Field High School and a proud member of our football team,” the Field High School athletics (Falcon) community said in a statement.

Sumego, of Akron, played varsity football for Falcons football and was in his senior year, set to graduate this spring. Sumego was “smart, mechanically inclined, athletic, funny, strong and excelled at anything he’d put his mind to”, according to his family.
