Shayla Yarbro, Redding SHASCOM Dispatcher’s Death Sparks Heartfelt Tribute

A 911 operator and dispatcher with the Shasta Area Safety Communications Agency (SHASCOM) in Redding, California, Shayla Yarbro, is dead.

Yarbro’s death was reported by her employers in a heartfelt tribute shared on social media Thursday, September 26th, 2024. No cause of death was given.

“It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that we share with you the passing of one of our own, Shayla Yarbro.” the post announced.

Yarbro, a grauduate of Anderson High School in Anderson CA, joined SHASCOM in 2022. The agency provides 911 dispatch services to the law enforcement and emergency service agencies in Shasta County, including the Redding Police and Fire Departments, and the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, among others.

She quickly proved herself as a natural at her new job and over time became a well-respected member of the SHASCOM team.

The tribute in her honor continued to say: “Shayla was an uplifting bright light in the room who had a way of making everyone around her laugh with her subtle rib-tickling humor. She was truly one of a kind with her sweet demeaner, laid back temperament, and go with the flow attitude…She was the most genuine, down to earth human that will be deeply missed,”

Her death shocked many who knew her as they came out to share heartfelt condolences. Most attested to her kind and amiable nature, recollecting encounters they’d had with her and and how warm she had been.
