Shelby Daniele, Former Cal Poly Student, Fresno State Invitational Medallist, Tragically Dies

Shelby Daniele, a graduate of California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo and a former Fresno State Invitational medallist, has died.

Daniele’s death was reported by her former High School Buchanan High School in Clovis CA on Thursday, September 26th, 2024. No cause of death was given.

“It is with an incredibly heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Shelby Daniele. Shelby was a former Century Tiger, Alta Sierra Bruin and Buchanan Bear. During her time at all three schools, Shelby was a standout track athlete!” said a post from Buchanan Track & Field which reports on all things Track and Field related to the High School.

The page continued to list some of Daniele’s numerous accolades during her time at the school. In May 2019, Daniele upset the field at the CA State Meet to win the 200 meter individual title.

“Shelby was a fantastic athlete…but she will be remembered by her teammates and coaches as an even more amazing person. As coaches, we will always appreciate the time she took to stop by the track when she was back in town to say hi to everyone. This loss leaves a gigantic hole in so many hearts…” the post continued.

Following her graduation in 2019, the Clovis native proceeded to Cal Poly to study for a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, graduating in spring 2023.

Daniele continued her exploits at Cal Poly, finishing her college career as the school record holder in women’s indoor 200 (24.69), No. 2 all-time in women’s indoor 60 (7.62), Tied No. 2 all-time in women’s 100 (11.58) and No. 3 all-time in women’s outdoor 200 (23.57).

In 2021, Shelby Daniele finished second in the 200 at Big West Conference Championships with a time of 24.57, third in 100 at 11.92, and second in the 200 at the Fresno State invitational with a time of 24.40. She was a five time All-Big West honoree.
