Netizens Slam Agya Koo for Supporting NPP Amid #FreeTheCitizens Campaign

Kumawood star Agya Koo known for his unwavering support of the NPP, has come under fire for his recent endorsement of the party amidst the ongoing #FreeTheCitizens campaign.

The movement gained traction following the arrest of several protesters, including socialite Ama Governor and walking artist Glenn Samm, during a three-day demonstration at the 37 Military Roundabout in Accra.

This sparked a wave of solidarity, with high-profile personalities like Efya, Camidoh, Efia Odo, and Nigerian musician Chike lending their voices to the cause.

Despite the growing public unrest, Agya Koo took to his X account on 25 September 2024, urging Ghanaians to support Dr. Bawumia in the upcoming general elections. “Vote for @MBawumia to continue the good work of President Nana Addo and NPP,” he posted.

The #OccupyJulorbiHouse protesters, who were arrested over the weekend, were demonstrating against illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) and economic mismanagement.

Agya Koo’s endorsement, in the midst of this public outpouring of frustration, appeared to many as ill-timed and out of step with the mood of the nation, igniting a fierce backlash from netizens.
