A student of the Minisink Valley High School in Middletown NY has been killed following a car accident.

The 17-year-old student was killed when the car he was in ran off the exit 114 ramp on Route 17 in Bloomingburg.

The car went down a steep embankment and led to the death of the student. Three other people were injured in the accident.

Authorities are yet to identify the victim but social media posts identified him as Jack Braun, of Slate Hill, a senior who played varsity lacrosse.

In his junior year, Braun helped the Minisink valley team to a 13-5 record. He was set to graduate at the end of the current school year.

In a statement the Minisink Valley Central School District Superintendent, Brian Monahan said counsellors will be provided for students to help them process their grief.

“It is important for members of our school community – particularly our high school community – to have an opportunity to talk through their feelings and reactions,” he said.

Monahan added that parents should encourage their children to talk about how they are feeling and make sure to listen while observing their behaviors for any changes.
