Wyllbee Laid To Rest, Buried With ‘Machetes’ To Avenge His Death

The family of the late musician, Wilberforce Appiah, popularly known as ‘Wyllbee,’ honored him with a deeply symbolic farewell, burying him with two large machetes as a call for justice. Wyllbee, who tragically lost his life in distressing circumstances, was laid to rest on Saturday, September 21, 2024, in Kwadaso, Ashanti Region. His family, believing his death was unjust, hoped for him to seek retribution in the afterlife.

In a break from traditional burial customs, the family placed two machetes in his casket, symbolizing their desire for justice for their loved one. Rituals were performed, further emphasizing their wish for retribution. Unlike most funerals where the deceased are encouraged to rest in peace, Wyllbee’s family wanted him to fight for justice. His mother, overwhelmed by grief, was visibly emotional throughout the service.

Wyllbee’s tragic death occurred on July 5, 2024, in Abuakwa-Tanoso, Ashanti Region. Reports indicate that he was staying at the residence of Nana Yaa Nyarko, whose family owned the property. That night, after Wyllbee was seen urinating in the compound, some residents suspected him of being a thief.

Although Wyllbee explained that he was visiting Nana Yaa, she allegedly denied knowing him, to protect her marriage out of fear of her in-laws. This denial is believed to have escalated the situation, leading to Wyllbee being lynched by the community members.

His family, particularly his mother, has expressed frustration with the slow pace of the legal process. While they hold faith in the justice system and divine intervention, they are disheartened by the suspects’ continued presence in court. They are eager for the case to conclude and for justice to be served.

Nana Yaa, identified as the main suspect, has faced hostility during her court appearances, with security heightened to protect her from angry crowds. After several bail rejections, she was finally granted bail of GH¢100,000 on August 15, 2024, along with another accused person. The family continues to seek justice for Wyllbee’s untimely death.
