Tributes Pour in For Bozeman Music Legend Joe Kirchner After Tragic Death

Bozeman, Montana music legend Joe ‘The Business’ Kirchner has died, according to tributes from multiple music industry luminaries.

Kirchner’s death was reported by multiple sources on Saturday, September 21st, 2024. He reportedly died in a tragic accident.

Joe Kirchner was a longtime fixture of music in Bozeman, appearing in numerous bands throughout the years including SlomoJoe, Dead Sky, MOTH, and more. He was also part of the ‘Northwest’s Hottest Pink Floyd Tribute Band’ – Pinky and the Floyd – alongside Luke Flansburg, Dustin Tucker, John Sanders, Drew and Jake Fleming and more.

The Bozeman band was once ranked top ten among all Pink Floyd Tribute Bands.

Kirchner, who played the piano and ‘keytar’ for the band, started studying classical piano as a kid. He became a Pink Floyd diehard at 13 and never looked back. Joe was educated at the MMI (Motorcycle Mechanics Institute) after graduating Bozeman High School, and runs an all-terrain rental company. He is married to Bridget Wermers Kirchner and the couple live in his hometown of Bozeman MN.

Tributes have been pouring in for Kirchner following his demise, with Daniel Conwell, a Montana native and adjunct instructor at New York University, saying of the late musician: “Joe Kirchner was a musician with raw talent. With incredible time feel, he was a captivating live performer and incredible human….”

The Waiting, a Bozeman band, also said of Kirchner: “The Business” was a cherished member of our Montana musical family, and his talent, drive, and undeniable passion for the craft left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.”
