Dr Steve J. Lawson, the pastor of Trinity Bible Church of Dallas, Texas, has been removed from his position at the church after cheating on his wife.

Steve Lawson had been lead preacher of the Trinity Bible Church since 2018 and resigned his position after church leaders became aware of his ‘inappropriate relationship’ with a woman.

The church said in a statement: “The elders at Trinity Bible Church of Dallas regretfully announce that effective immediately, Steven J. Lawson has been removed indefinitely from all ministry activities at Trinity Bible Church of Dallas.”

According to the statement, details of Lawson’s indiscretion came to light a few days ago, leading to them to hold a meeting with him during which the next course of action was decided.

“Several days ago, the elders at Trinity Bible Church of Dallas were informed by Steve Lawson of an inappropriate relationship that he has had with a woman. The elders have met with Steve and will continue to come alongside him and pray for him with the ultimate goal of his personal repentance.”

Finally, the church added that Lawson will no longer receive any remuneration from the church.

OnePassion Ministries, the ministry Dr Lawson formed to preach the word of God around the world and train others in preaching, also announced he had stepped down.

“The board of OnePassion Ministries mournfully announces that just recently Steven J. Lawson confessed to the board that he has had an inappropriate relationship with a woman, a sin that has disqualified him from ministry. In response Steve has resigned from all his duties at OnePassion Ministries,” the statement said.

The Church added that he confessed and regretted the damage he had caused his family and to the work they do of winning souls for Christ.

Dr Steve Lawson is the founder of One Passion Ministries with over 40 years of experience winning souls in Arkansas and Alabama. He is 73.

Lawson founded One Passion Ministries with the goal of ‘igniting a supreme passion for God and his glory in all people throughout the world.’

He dedicated his life to preaching and teaching others to preach the word of God with his work taking him to over a dozen countries around the world. He cared mostly about perfecting the act of preaching and training up a new generation of preachers to bring about a transformation to the church.

Aside from founding his own One Passion Ministries, Dr Steven Lawson hosted the Institute for Expository Preaching and served as a Teaching Fellow for Ligonier Ministries, serving on its board. He also served as a Professor of Preaching, overseeing the Doctor of Ministry program at the Master’s Seminary, once again serving on its board.

In 2018, the Trinity Bible Church of Dallas, Texas, appointed him as their lead preacher. He held that position until September 2024 when he was forced to resign following a cheating scandal.

Dr Steven Lawson was educated at Texas Tech University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree (B.B.M). He continued at Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M) and the Reformed Theological Seminary for his (D.Min).

He has authored close to three dozen books including The Moment of Truth, The Cost: What It Takes to Follow Jesus, Foundations of Grace, Pillars of Grace, The Unwavering Resolve of Jonathan Edwards, The Expository Genius of John Calvin, and many others. He served as the Executive Editor for Expositor Magazine, published by One Passion Ministries.

Steve Lawson was married to his wife, Anne, for over 40 years. They had four children – three sons, Andrew, James, and John, and a daughter, Grace Anne.
