Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), recently emphasized the importance of romance in marriage, even for Christian couples.
In a post on his Facebook page, Pastor Adeboye explained that being a Christian does not mean romance should be absent from one’s marriage. He used the biblical example of Isaac and Rebekah from Genesis 26:8 to illustrate his point, where Isaac was seen being affectionate with his wife.
He pointed out that some pastors shy away from romantic activities with their spouses, fearing it might distract them from spiritual matters. However, he stressed that the anointing doesn’t reduce the need for romance in marriage. “Marriage is the only institution where romance and intimacy are allowed between a man and a woman,” he wrote.
He encouraged couples to stay playful and affectionate with each other, reminding them that marriage should be full of love and fun.
Adeboye gave practical advice such as composing poems for one’s spouse, leaving sweet surprise notes, and even having pet names for each other. “When we are alone, we are lovers, not Daddy GO and Mummy GO,” he shared, revealing that he and his wife still use pet names behind closed doors. He concluded by urging couples to rekindle the romance that existed when they first got married, advising them not to let the love fade away.
Adeboye’s message reminds couples that romance and faith can beautifully coexist in a marriage, helping it flourish and become “like heaven on earth.”
