Kate Rust, Thompson Station Middle Schooler Dies Following Cross Country Meet

Kate Rust, a middle schooler in Thompson’s Station, Tennessee, has died shortly after running a cross country meet on Wednesday.

The Tennessee Runner reported Rust’s death Friday, September 20th, 2024.

According to a statement, the 8th grader at Thompson Station Middle school run a cross country meet on Wednesday. She was reported dead soon after.

“It is with heavy hearts that we report the sudden passing of Kate Rust, a beloved member of the Thompson’s Station Middle School cross country team,” the statement read.

Kate was praised for her talents on the track and her determination and passion for running.

“She was a dedicated athlete who pushed herself to be the best she could be. Her presence on the team will truly be missed,” it added.

A time of worship and prayer is scheduled to be held for Kate Rust by the Thompson Station Middle School PTO on Friday night at the school football field.

“Our TSMS community is so very heartbroken. Please join us this morning in honor of Kate,” the group said in a post shared to social media.

Kate distinguished herself via her athletic prowess, academic abilities and shining personality, her death leaving a void in her family, school, and local community.
