Not Even One Gospel Artist Checked On Me After My Injury, Sonnie Badu Shares

Published by

Ghanaian gospel musician and pastor Sonnie Badu has expressed disappointment over the neglect he faced from his fellow gospel artists following a severe injury in December 2023.

Speaking in a recent interview with Joy Prime, Badu revealed that none of his colleagues in the gospel fraternity checked on him during his recovery. “Not even a single one checked up on me. When I realized that not a single gospel artist colleague or pastor would check up on me, that’s when I said, even if I died, nobody cares; I have to rise up quickly,” he shared.

He reflected on how he would have responded differently, noting that he would have reached out to others in a similar situation, regardless of whether they were close or not. “Personally, if I heard that somebody had gone through something, I would have been calling. I don’t care whether I’m cool with you or not. But not even one person did,” he added.

While his gospel colleagues were absent, a few pastors, such as Nigerian Pastor Jerry Eze and Prophet Agyemang Prempeh, among others showed concern by reaching out to him on social media.

The incident that led to his injury occurred while he was at home cleaning and watering his garden. He stumbled on the steps between his garden and metal railings, leading to a serious injury that required surgery. Despite not being fully recovered, the musician pushed through the pain and performed at his Rhythms of Africa concert in Accra on December 9, 2023.

His decision to perform sparked speculation on social media, with some claiming that the injury was exaggerated for publicity. However, Badu dismissed these accusations, stating that he understands such reactions as part of Ghanaian culture and harbors no ill feelings toward those who doubted him.
