Mike West, the longtime CEO of Rothman Orthopaedics in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, has died.

West’s death sparked glowing tributes from friends, family and employees over his amazing leadership of Rothman Orthopaedics.

Mike West graduated from James Madison University in 1981 and later received his MBA from the University of St. Thomas.

He joined Rothman Orthopaedics in 1999 as CEO after spending his early career at the Paramount Consulting Group and Specialty Care Network.

In 1999, the Rothman Institute named Mike as CEO. At the time of his hire, the company had seven physicians and had one office in Philadelphia. Over nearly three decades that he remained in charge, he grew the business to include offices in Southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Florida – employing approximately 200 physicians, and over 90 operative and office sites.

On March 31st, 2021, Michael E. West finally stepped down as CEO of Rothman Orthopaedic Institute after 22 years in the role.

“I am exceptionally proud of all that we have accomplished together. I believe that Rothman will continue to be a leader in healthcare as it expands to additional communities throughout the country. It has been a great honor and privilege to work with the world class physicians of Rothman Orthopaedics, and to lead and develop the exceptional management team and staff during my tenure,” he said at the time.

Following news of his death, an employee who marvelled at how his leadership style transformed the company took to social media to mourn.

“…for 30 years under his leadership I was able to do my Job my way Thank You for our success your support encouragement, and most of all your friendship you can never be replaced rest easy Mike West,” Mary Pellicciotti, a Patient Access Supervisor trauma team coordinator mourned on social media.
