Nabanita Chaterjee Nag, former executive vice president of corporate affairs at the Norfolk Southern Corporation was fired after cheating on her husband with her boss, company CEO Alan Shaw.

Alan Shaw was also married to wife Tiffany Tilley Shaw and they had four children.

The relationship was reportedly consensual but violated company policies, leading to their firing.

The firing “comes in connection with preliminary findings from an ongoing investigation that determined Shaw violated company policies by engaging in a consensual relationship with the company’s chief legal officer. Shaw’s departure is unrelated to the company’s performance, financial reporting and results of operations,” Norfolk Southern Corporation said in a press release.

The news has led social media users on a search to learn more about Nabanita who held several important roles at the railroad corporation before her firing.

Nabanita C. Nag was the vice president corporate affairs, chief legal officer and corporate secretary at Norfolk Southern Corporation prior to her firing on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024.

Nag was fired following an investigation into a consensual affair she was having with the company CEO Alan Shaw, who was also fired.

Shaw was fired ‘for cause’, the company announced in a statement which also said Nag had been terminated from her multiple roles based on the findings of the investigation.

The Indian-origin Nabanita cheated on her husband, Sagarnil Nag, with Alan Shaw, who was also married to Tiffany Tilley. It appeared both were unhappy with their marriages and sought solace in one another. It’s not known how long Nabanita Nag was cheating on her husband as the company did not release these details.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Nag graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Political Science and Government, and English, in 1997. She proceeded to New York University for her Juris doctor in Banking, Corporate, Finance and Securities Law in 2000.

Nag worked for Shearman & Sterling LLP as an associate for five years, before spending close to a decade as Associate General Counsel at Goldman Sachs. She joined Norfolk Southern Corporation in Atalanta as General Counsel in 2010. She became Executive Vice President Corporate Affairs and Chief Legal Officer in July 2022.

Alan Shaw has also been CEO of Norfolk Southern for just over two years, roughly the same amount of time Nabanita Nag was promoted to her prestigious roles.

Following the dismissal of both Nabanita Nag and Alan Shaw, CFO Mark George was named as the new company CEO.

“The Board has full confidence in Mark and his ability to continue delivering on our commitments to shareholders and other stakeholders,” said Claude Mongeau, chairman of the Norfolk Southern’s board.

Nag was named as an Atlanta Business Chronicle 2024 Corporate Counsel Award Honoree. She was chosen for her ‘outstanding work’ helping Norfolk Southern navigate a ‘complex corporate crisis’.
