A call from the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for galamsey to be stopped has been rubbished by angry Ghanaians on social media.
According to responses to his call, Otumfuo and other chiefs are all benefiting from galamsey hence they are not interested in solving it despite what they claim publicly.
The Asantehene said during a recent trip to Cape Coast, he had seen tremendous devastation on the River Pra and called for action to be taken.
“Going to Cape Coast, I stood by the River Pra. I’m afraid I have to tell you that what I saw (the current state of the river) was so embarrassing. We have to fight galamsey, no matter what. What could be more serious for a nation than to have its entire water supply system at risk?” he said whilst addressing members of the Ghana Bar Association and some political heads at a dinner in Manhyia Palace.
However, his comments did not sit well with Ghanaians on social media.
“😂😂fast pretender,” one netizen said in reaction.
Another wrote: “Joker! you are even part of it how can you stop what you enjoying,”
