A deceased fan of Barstool Sports Dave Portnoy, Derek Murphy, got his final wish fulfilled as Portnoy visited his family home in Troy NY to try their pizza.

Murphy has been diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy since age 2 and was in a wheelchair for more than half his life. In January, one of his brother’s contacted the Barstool team and told them the story of Derek who was turning 23 on Jan. 7 and was near the end of his life, having entered hospice care.

Derek is a diehard fan of Portnoy’s, his brother said and requested a FaceTime with the big man himself before Murphy passed away.

The surprise birthday Facetime occurred on Derek Murphy’s 23rd birthday on January 7th, 2024. During the FaceTime Derek requested that Dave review his father’s homemade pizza the next time he was anywhere near Troy.

Derek died on May 9th and in recent days, Portnoy found his way to their neck of the woods and reviewed his father’s pizza, as well as their outdoor bar Fookin Murphys.
