Donnell Floyd Jr, the son of go-go music legend Donnell Floyd Sr, has died from a motorcycle accident.

Junior’s death occurred Tuesday, September 10th, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department in Maryland.

Officers of the Cheverly Police Department were called to the scene of a motorcycle accident around 1:00 pm Tuesday at the intersection of Landover Road and Cheverly Avenue for the report of a crash involving a motorcycle and SUV. The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash and was identified as 40-year-old Donnell Floyd of Clinton MD.

Donnell Floyd Jr worked as part of a Cable Team at General Dynamics Information Technology, according to LinkedIn, and was a known lover of the bike life.

His aunt, Vanessa Abernathy, announced the tragic news in a Facebook post.

“My nephew Donnell Floyd Jr passed away yesterday…. I needed to let our North Carolina family know…. You may not have known him, but you may know one of his aunts, his uncles or his cousins…” she said.

Following news of his death, friends and colleagues took to social media to pay tribute.

Despite marked similarities with his father including physique and voice, Junior never expressed a desire to join him in music, saying in an interview: “No mic for me! I’m more relaxed. I’m in the background. I ride motorcycles and I kind of do my own thing. My brother raps and I just kind of relax. If they try to put a band together with all of us, I might try to sing back up a little bit but that will be about it. I might try to hit the cowbell.”

He was married to Christiana Floyd and they had just celebrated their first wedding anniversary a couple of months back. Junior had one child, a daughter.

Distraught friends took to Mrs Floyd’s page to mourn following news of her husband’s death.

Keeping you and your family lifted in prayer,” read one comment.
