Africans Will Take Their Village Life Everywhere: Reactions As Street Vendors Swiftly Pack-up Their Goods To Avoid The Police

Published by

A group of African vendors, reportedly selling counterfeit designer products, managed to make a swift getaway after spotting police officers approaching at Times Square in New York.

In a now-viral video, the individuals, believed to be either Ghanaians or Nigerians, had displayed their goods on the ground for passers-by to purchase.

However, upon noticing some officers from the New York Police Department (NYPD), they quickly gathered their merchandise and fled the scene.

Street vending, where goods are laid out and prices are called out to attract customers, is a common practice in Ghana and Nigeria.

However, the same informal approach doesn’t apply in many countries abroad. These young men, attempting to replicate what they had learned back home, tried their luck in a foreign setting to make quick cash.

Their actions sparked criticism from some Ghanaians and Nigerians online, who condemned the vendors for tarnishing the image of their home countries.
