19-Year-Old Chicago Fire Goalie, Jakub Skiba Reported Dead

Jakub Szymon Skiba, a soccer player for the Chicago Fire, has died, his family has announced.

Skiba, of Lemont, Illinois, died Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024. He was 19. No cause of death has been publicly revealed.

The Lockport High School graduate has played soccer since childhood. Previous clubs include Kuba Soccer Academy, FC United Soccer Club and Chicago Fire. The 5’8″, 155lbs teen played primarily as a goalkeeper.

Jakub Skiba was born on March 28th, 2005 to Danata Kuruc and Tomasz Skiba. He had one sibling, Tomash. Sometimes known as Kuba, news of his passing stunned family and friends who remembered him in flowery tributes.

I’m going to miss you brother, I thank the Lord for spending all those great moments with you on the soccer field!” one tribute read.

According to his obituary, visitation for Skiba would be held Friday at Zarzycki Manor Chapels in Willow Springs and his funeral Saturday at Our Lady Mother of the Church, Willow Springs.
