Grant Beyer, 26, a former Hilbert College basketball star was killed following a wrong-way crash Sunday night on Route 33.

Beyer’s death was confirmed Tuesday by Buffalo police.

According to reports, the car accident that killed Grant Beyer occurred on Route 33 in Buffalo near the Grider Street exit around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

Beyer was driving a Nissan Altima traveling the wrong way on the eastbound lane and crashed head-on into another vehicle.

The Williamsville native was transported by ambulance to ECMC where he was pronounced dead. Two occupants of the other vehicle sustained non-life threatening injuries and were also transported to the hospital.

“It appears during the investigation that the vehicle was traveling in the wrong direction on the 33. Unfortunately from time to time it happens, but in this particular investigation it appears that alcohol played a role in it,” Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramagli said of the crash.

The crash scene, which was captured in some cell phone videos, showed a group of people working together to extricate one of the victims from the vehicle.

“There’s somebody in there!” screamed a woman among the good Samaritans who stopped to try to help.

“He needs the jaws of life, Jen!” said another man.

Jen replied: “I know. But I’m not leaving!”

Beyer played varsity basketball for four years in high school, two years at Williamsville South High School and two years at St Joseph’s Collegiate Institute. He also played three seasons of varsity football.

In college, the 6’3″ guard made the Hilbert Hawks team as a freshman as he studied for a degree in Business.

Tributes poured in for the deceased in social media posts.

“Rest in peace Grant Beyer, you were always so kind. Gone way too soon 😔 Praying for his family and loved ones ❤️‍🩹” read one tribute.

Another said: “One of my dawgs forreal. I can’t even talk about the fun we had but I appreciate you for life bro. Good vibes and always kept a smile on his face…. And could HOOP,”
