American actor and professional wrestler John Cena recently shared his reasons for choosing not to have children. During an appearance on the Club Shay Shay show, the 47-year-old discussed why he and his wife have opted to remain child-free.
“I don’t want kids. I’m 47 now, and I don’t have them,” Cena said. “Everyone asks if I want them, and I have to tell you that it’s not the easiest decision because a lot of why we’re here is to reproduce.” He acknowledged the societal pressure to start a family but pointed out that he has taken a different approach based on his own personality and life aspirations.
“I have a certain curiosity about life, and I also know the investment that parenting requires. My biggest fear is that, as someone who’s driven, often stubborn, and sometimes selfish, I try to approach the world with kindness and curiosity. But I don’t think I’m personally ready—nor will I ever be able—to invest the time needed to be a great parent,” he admitted.
John Cena acknowledged that discussing such a personal choice can be challenging. “It’s a tough subject to talk about because it immediately puts you in a category, and we can’t help but judge—it’s human nature. I’d like to believe that I operate under the belief that everyone is living their lives the best way they can. I’ve thought long and hard about this since I was 15 or 16 years old.”
He continued, “I want to live life to the fullest. I still have a lot to do, and I have a wonderful partner to do it with. We’ve had open conversations about this, and we share the same values.”
