Mara Gay is an American journalist/editorial columnist who has written for the New York Times and New Street Journal. She is also a political analyst on the television network MSNBC. Gay is a member of the New York Times Editorial Board focusing on politics and all things New York.

Gay was born September 10, 1989. She is 34-years-old. She grew up in Westchester County and in Brooklyn and had her education at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in political science.

Following College, Mara was hired at the Atlantic Monthly where she worked as a staff editor. She helped remake the magazine’s digital presence before moving on to a position at The Daily, a tablet newspaper owned by Rupert Murdoch. She served as a National Enterprise reporter at the News Corp owned media organization before moving on to The New York Daily News where she worked as a reporter from City Hall.

Mara moved into the big leagues by joining the Wall Street Journal as a City Hall reporter.
