Ghanaians have lambasted TikTok content creator Akonoba for a recent video he shared just weeks after the burial of his younger brother.
In the video, Akonoba is seen dancing to a trending song while wearing a jean skirt and top, a choice of attire that has sparked outrage among many.
Akonoba’s younger brother, Nana Yaw Sampene, tragically passed away in July 2024 at the tender age of 17. The funeral, held on August 10, 2024, was a sombre affair, with Akonoba visibly heartbroken and inconsolable.
During the service, he publicly announced that he would be taking a break from his TikTok career, stating that he needed time to grieve and honour his brother’s memory. Nana Yaw was a student at Opoku Ware SHS, and his untimely death left the family and community devastated.
Videos from the funeral circulated on social media, showing Akonoba in tears, mourning the loss of his brother. However, it seems that the TikTok star was unable to keep the promise he made. Despite his public declaration to pause content creation, he soon returned to TikTok, posting a video of himself dressed in female clothing.
Akonoba’s decision to continue dressing and acting like a woman for his TikTok content has been met with disapproval, especially from his father, who has reportedly disowned him. Yet, Akonoba continues to dress in a funny way.
