Ghanaian rapper Derrick Sarfo Kantanka, popularly known as Amerado, recently opened up about the challenges he faced while growing up. In an interview with actress Emelia Brobbey on her Okukuseku talk show, Amerado shared that he couldn’t attend university after completing his Senior High School education at KNUST Senior High School due to financial difficulties.

He said, “I finished Senior High School and got into Akrokerri College of Education and KNUST, but I couldn’t go because my mother couldn’t pay the fees.” I never had plans to attend KNUST because I knew it was too expensive for us. I just wanted to go to the training college, and luckily, I was accepted.”

He also talked about the support he received from his mother and others after his father passed away when he was just 13 years old

“My mother and some unknown individuals supported me because my father died when I was 13. I always wanted to continue my education because of a promise I made to my father.”

I saved up from music shows, and with the help of my team, who encouraged me to apply, two years ago, I finally got into the University of Ghana,” Amerado shared.
