Dr Jake Landsberger is the father of late Australian journalist, Sam Landsberger who passed away following a tragic car accident.

Sam was crossing a street at the intersection of Bridge Road and Church Street in Richmond around 10.20am (local time) Tuesday when he was struck by a truck.

He was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries following the accident but tragically, did not survive.

Sam is survived by a multitude of family and friends including his father, Dr Jacob Landsberger, who is known across Australia as the former team doctor for the Western Bulldogs.

All About Dr Jake Landsberger

Dr Jacob Landsberger holds a Medical Degree and a Science Degree and is a member of the Australian and International Sports Medicine Federations.

He has practiced as a General Practitioner (GP) in Footscray for close to five decades.

He has worked with the Westmed Medical Centre and previously served as the long-term medical officer for the Western Bulldogs Football team, a position he held for more than twenty years.

Dr Landsberger specializes in muscular and bony problems contracted either due to injury or disease.

He is the father of Sam Landsberger, a sports journalist with the Herald Sun and Fox Footy. He was a regular Fox Footy contributor and appeared on the Midweek Tackle show.

Sam, 35, was killed in a tragic car accident on Tuesday, August 20th.

One of the rising stars in Aussie sports journalism, Landsberger began his career in 2010, while writing VFL football for the Herald Sun.

His work earned him numerous awards including the Walkley Young Journalist of the Year and three consecutive Twenty20 annual media award wins.

Tributes

Friends and colleagues of Sam Landsberger have paid tribute to him following his tragic passing.

He was described as the ‘future of journalism’ by Mark Robinson, the Chief Football writer of the Herald Sun.

The Western Bulldogs also paid tribute to him due to his father’s connections to the club.

“…Everyone at the Western Bulldogs is shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden death of Sam Landsberger. As well as being a talented and respected journalist, Sam was an ardent Bulldogs fan and had close family ties through his father Jake, the Club’s former long-term medical officer and Bulldogs life member,” the club wrote in a post on its social media channels.
