Jonathan Bloomer, the Chairman of the International arm of the American Multinational Investment Bank Morgan Stanley, has been revealed as one of those missing following the disappearance of the luxurious Bayesian superyacht.
The yacht sank off the coast of Italy in Palermo, Sicily, early on 19 August 2024, following a violent storm.
Those confirmed missing on the boat so far include British techpreneur Mike Lynch, his daughter Hannah, Jonathan Bloomer, his wife Judy, Christopher Morvillo, a partner at Clifford Chance LLP, and Nada Morvillo, his wife. Ricardo Thomas, a Canadian-born Antiguan citizen who was a crew member on the Bayesian, has been confirmed dead. Lynch’s wife Angela Bacares was one of fifteen people rescued.
The group had reportedly been celebrating Mike Lynch’s acquittal after a protracted fraud battle against Hewlett-Packard.

Jonathan Bloomer was born on March 23rd, 1954 in the UK. He had his education at Imperial College in London, graduating with a BSc in Physics in 1974, following which he commenced his long and distinguished career in the business world.
Following his education, he joined Arthur Andersen in the 70s, where he started building his impressive portfolio. He worked in insurance and worked both in UK and on the continent at large. He eventually served as a Senior Partner at the firms European Insurance Practice.
After his impressive career at Arthur Andersen, Bloomer began a long and distinguished career at Prudential Public Limited Company, starting as Group Finance Director from 1995 before becoming deputy Group Chief Executive in 1999 and then eventually, Group Chief Executive in 2000.

He took over just before the worldwide economic downturn at the turn of the millennium and struggled to turn a profit due to the global economic conditions at the time. An attempted takeover of the U.S. insurance company American General at the time fell through and did not help his standing with shareholders.
The company announced a nearly 50 percent decline in profits in the first half of 2002 compared to the same period the previous year. It’s share prices also drastically declined but Bloomer maintained he could right the ship. He focused on a growth strategy of broadening the company’s international markets, particularly into Asia.
He eventually led the company to somewhat of a recovery in its sales figures but continued to struggle with turning around the profit margin and raising the share prices.
After ten years at Prudential, he joined Cerebrus European Capital Advisors as a Partner in 2006. He was CEO of Lucida PLC, a pension buy-out vehicle, then served as Chairman for Arrow Global Group, DWF, and SDL Group Holdings Ltd.
In November 2016, he became Chairman of Morgan Stanley International Bank in London, a position currently holds. He also became Chairman of Bermuda-based re/insurer Hiscox in 2023.
He also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Autonomy, the software company at the center of Mike Lynch’s infamous legal battle with Hewlett-Packard. Bloomer was appointed to the board by Lynch in 2010.
During the protracted legal battle between Lynch and HP, he testified in Lynch’s defense.
Bloomer’s management style has been described as somewhat of keeping a low profile and trying to remain on the good side of colleagues and subordinates. He is also known to be meticulous in his approach.
Jonathan Bloomer is married to his wife, Judy, with whom he has three children.
Judy is a former director of property developer Change Real Estate along with her husband and a trustee at the gynaecological cancer research charity the Eve Appeal for over 20 years.
