Talented Guitarist Mark May Dead Following Tragic Accident in Houston

Veteran musician/guitarist, Mark May of the Mark May band fame has died following a tragic accident. He was 62.

His sister announced the tragedy, writing: “It is with near disbelief that I am announcing the tragic and heartbreaking passing of my brother, Mark May. It is so hard to believe he is gone. He will be missed by family, many friends and Mark May music fans,”

Born Sept 29, 1961 in Columbus, Ohio, May was a guitarist most known for leading the Mark May band. He also served as a guitarist and vocalist for Dickey Betts and Great Southern.

A graduate of Northridge, May was a three decade music veteran who tugged at heartstrings with his incredible talent on the guitar and behind the mic. In person, he was described as a warm and charismatic individual who could make people laugh.

According to reports, Mark May’s death occurred due to an accident on Telephone road in Houston while returning home from a ‘jam night’

He was horribly injured after his car caught on fire but was pulled out by a heroic bystander.

May was quickly transported to the hospital where he was rushed to the ICU for treatment.

Tragically, the extent of his injuries were too dire and he died, reportedly with his girlfriend Wendy by his side.

Wendy shared a beautiful tribute to May following his passing, writing on Facebook: “Many know Mark the Musician, but I feel so fortunate and privileged to have known Mark the loving Partner, the animal lover, the comedian, the protector, and the lover of life, just to name a few of the many sides of Mark May. I’m so confused as to what to do without Mark….I’m lost. I feel numb. And I’m exhausted. I lost the love of my life and I’ve never felt a hurt like this before,”

His death has sparked tributes from devastated friends and fans on social media, with many describing him as a classy individual, a good person and above all, a massively talented blues/rock player and singer.

A true mensch has passed. May he RIP.
