Nana Yaa Nyarko, the primary suspect in the Wyllbee murder case, failed to appear in court as scheduled, citing illness as the reason. She was due to appear alongside another suspect before the Akropong Circuit Court on August 12, 2024. However, the prosecution informed the court that Nana Yaa could not attend due to ill health.
It has also been reported that her absence may have been a precautionary measure due to an angry crowd that had gathered outside the court, anticipating her arrival. Upon learning of her absence, the crowd moved to a nearby police station where Nana Yaa was being held temporarily before her transfer to a remand facility.
In a viral video, the police are seen making several attempts to transport her safely, as the enraged mob surrounded the vehicle and nearly attacked her. The court has adjourned the case to August 27, 2024.
Background
Reports indicate that Wyllbee was tragically killed in Abuakwa-Tanoso, Ashanti Region, while staying overnight at Nana Yaa Nyarko’s residence. The residence was reportedly owned by her husband’s family living abroad and they were unaware of Wyllbee’s presence.
On July 5, 2024, Wyllbee was seen urinating in the compound and was confronted by residents who suspected him of theft. When questioned, Wyllbee claimed he was visiting Nana Yaa, but she allegedly denied knowing him to protect her marriage from her in-laws. This denial fueled suspicion and accusations among the neighbors, ultimately leading to Wyllbee being lynched.
