Gospel artist Kirk Franklin, renowned for his impactful music and outspoken faith, recently took a stand against certain beliefs held within Western Christianity. In a conversation with Cam Newton on the “Funky Friday” show, Franklin expressed concern over how marriage  have been “weaponized” by the church.

Kirk Franklin criticized the notion that single people are incomplete or “living in sin” until they marry. He shared a scenario where single women, especially those in their 30s, are often judged and questioned at family gatherings about their marital status. He emphasized that this mentality places undue pressure on individuals, making them feel as if their value is tied to having a spouse or children.

Franklin also highlighted the harmful message that marriage is necessary to serve in ministry, sharing how some of his friends were told they needed to marry to fulfill their roles in the church. He argued that such beliefs are not rooted in God’s will but rather in human dogma, stressing that one’s purpose and ability to serve God are not dependent on marital status. Franklin concluded by affirming that being single does not diminish a person’s worth or their potential to be used by God.
