Racer James Fox has died after an inopportune medical emergency whilst zooming around at high speeds on the Southern Raceway track in Florida led to a fatal accident.
Fox, of Defuniak Springs FL, was racing on the Southern Raceway in Milton as part of a ‘Back to School Bash’ show the track was hosting this weekend. He had reposted a flyer about the race on Facebook hours before the race.
Everything was going swimmingly and everyone around appeared to be having a great time when around 10 p.m. on Saturday, August 10th, everything went wrong and James Fox ended up crashing his car into the concrete barrier wall and fence surrounding the track in a particularly gruesome accident.
Emergency medical services, fire officers and troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol all responded to the scene and learned a driver suffered a medical emergency while driving which precipitated the accident.

Incredibly, Fox apparently survived the accident and was still suffering his medical episode when he was extricated and flown to Sacred Heart Medical in Pensacola.
Tragically, he died at the hospital.
The Southern Raceway track posted a tribute to the driver on Sunday morning following news of his death.
“Our hearts are absolutely broken. The Fox family and this racing community need your prayers. We love you James. You’re racing in our hearts forever,” the post from the Southern Raceway track read.
The races on Saturday night were immediately cancelled following the event.
Fox was married to Elizabeth Ward and the couple shared a son, Dakota, who is also a regular IMCA Modified driver at Southern.
Numerous tributes were posted on social media to racer James Fox following his tragic passing.
“Last night, My cousin Elizabeth lost the love of her life, a mother and father lost their precious son, children lost their devoted father, and countless others lost a cherished friend. James Fox was a beacon of light to so many, and his absence leaves a void that can never be filled,” one tribute on Facebook read.
Fox will surely be missed. May he RIP.
