Did Susan Wojcicki Smoke?

The news that former Youtube CEO and top executive Susan Wojcicki had died at the relatively young age of 56 from lung cancer has the internet in a bind.

Dying from lung cancer has many people wondering whether Wojcicki was a smoker.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, non-small cell lung cancer is actually the most common type of lung cancer and affects smokers and non-smokers.

In this type of lung cancer, cancerous cells originate in your lung tissues. Whilst it grows slowly compared to the other type of lung cancer (small cell lung cancer), it often spreads to other parts of your body.

Considering the fact that this type of cancer affects smokers and non-smokers, it does not tell us anything about Wojcicki’s smoking habits or the lack thereof.  No news reports have mentioned her being a smoker, heavy or otherwise.

The fact is there is no publicly available evidence supporting or refuting the question of whether Susan Wojcicki was a smoker.

In his Facebook post, Susan Wojcicki’s husband wrote: “It is with profound sadness that I share the news of Susan Wojcicki passing. My beloved wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left us today after 2 years of living with non small cell lung cancer,”

Describing her as his best friend and life partner, Troper went on to celebrate her brilliant and inventive mind as well as her immense impact on the world at large.

“We are heartbroken, but grateful for the time we had with her. Please keep our family in your thoughts as we navigate this difficult time,” he concluded his message.

Meanwhile, social media, specifically reddit has sprung up with questions and arguments over whether Susan Wojcicki smoked.

In reaction to one question, ‘did she smoke’, one Redditor said: “You don’t have to smoke to get lung cancer. I know a few people who’ve had it and never smoked. 🤷‍♀️”

Another said: “Unfortunately, compared to a few decades ago, lung cancer in non-smokers is on the rise,”

In conclusion, there is no information available online to confirm or deny that Wojcicki was a smoker but even if she wasn’t, it is possible to contract non-small cell lung cancer without smoking a day in your life.
