Adidjah Palmer, known to the world as Vybz Kartel, walked out of prison a free man on July 31 after the court decided unanimously against retrying him for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams, whose body was never discovered. Although he dropped a full album less than 24 hours post-release, the Jamaican music legend says he is currently prioritizing his health and overall well-being in an interview with FOX 5’s Lisa Evers.
He mentioned that his new health routine begins at home under the care of his physician, Dr. Karen Phillips. “Healthwise, you know I’m working on my health right now, but the feeling of just being free is just an amazing feeling,” Kartel shared.
Kartel suffers from Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks the thyroid gland, causing it to produce excessive thyroid hormones, which accelerates many bodily functions (CDC). Dr. Phillips testified in court that Kartel’s heart function was below normal, putting him at risk of a heart attack or death in his sleep. Considering his worsening Graves’ disease, the court ruled that he might not survive a longer sentence if retried.
Since his release, Kartel has begun a new health routine, including purchasing a bike and a treadmill. He has also scheduled regular appointments with his doctor, who will monitor him closely. He described this new regimen as a significant improvement from his time in prison.
Now, the Jamaican star is back on the streets of his homeland, enjoying his freedom with family, friends, and his fiancée, Sidem Ozturk. He expressed his relief at being reunited with them and highlighted the joy of spending quality time with his sons.
