Ghanaian Afrobeat musician Mujahid Ahmed Bello, popularly known as Fancy Gadam, has expressed his shock after receiving only GH₵374  in royalties from the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO). In an interview on Accra-based Power FM, Fancy Gadam criticized GHAMRO for not taking its members seriously.

“It feels like they don’t value us. If Fancy Gadam gets just this amount, what about the veteran artists who rely on their music for a living and are waiting for their royalties? It hurts. Are they telling me this is all I deserve for a whole year? I’m in pain right now,” he said.

Fancy Gadam highlighted that his songs, especially from his recent album “Competition,” are very popular in Ghana. He questioned why he received only GH₵374  Ghana cedis this year, compared to GH₵1,800 last year, despite working even harder. He also mentioned the costs he incurs, including VAT payments for his concerts.

The “Total Cheat” hitmaker expressed confusion over the criteria used by GHAMRO for these payments and mentioned that he is unsure about the specific period covered by this payment.

GHAMRO, established under Section 49 of the Copyright Law, Act 690 of 2005, and regulated under L.I. 1962 of 2010, is responsible for collecting and distributing royalties on behalf of authors, composers, and other rights holders.
