Speaking in a recent interview, the TV icon revealed that her association with former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings brought her closer to the NDC’s inner circle.
The entertainment icon’s political journey began during the late Jerry John Rawlings’ administration when she joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
She benefited a lot from that association. Maame Dokono revealed how Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings sponsored her “By the fire Side” to make it successful.
She shot to fame after starring in the popular Akan Drama series Obra on GTV and as host of By The Fire Side.
However, Maame Dokono accepted an invitation from the NPP party and that was the beginning of her woes. She explained that Nana Konadu withdrew all her support and took back everything she gave her after realizing she was affiliating with the NPP party.
Her political allegiance shifted when Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo became the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer in 2008. Unfortunately, this decision proved to be a turning point.
Following the NPP’s electoral defeat, Maame Dokono faced intense backlash, with many blaming her for the party’s loss.
