The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Twifo Atti-Morkwa constituency in the Central Region, Ebenezer Dwamena, has been arrested over his participation in an alleged car fraud scheme.
Dwamena is alleged to have been involved in a conspiracy to defraud by false pretenses.
He has been remanded into police custody by the Assin Kyekyewere District Court.
According to reports, the constituency chairman had purchased a car from a dealer and later introduced some of his friends who wanted to buy a car to the same dealer.
However, however, the friends who were paying for the car had difficulty retrieving the car from the dealer as he took their money but failed to produce the vehicle.
This led to a report being lodged with the police leading to the arrest of Dwamena.
However, a party official in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa constituency said the Dwamena is actually the one who reported the issue to the police because he was worried about his reputation due to being the one who introduced the duo to the car dealer.
The Assin Kyekyewere District Court has remanded the accused into custody for two weeks to enable police to conclude their investigations.
