Ghanaian actress and TV Show host, Nana Ama Mcbrown has paid off the fine for an inmate to be released from prison. She paid the fine and also offered to get him a job to start his life.
Nana Ama Mcbrown is not new to charity works. A few months ago, she donated the huge sum of GHC10,000 to the Crime Check Foundation.
The celebrity presented a cheque for the amount to Crime Check Foundation (CCF) to support its petty offenders project.
She handed the donation to the Executive Director of the Foundation, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng during an invite to join her on her cooking show, ‘McBrown’s Kitchen’ together with a female ex-offender.
After an interaction with the ex-offender on the popular show, McBrown was inspired by the sad story and made the contribution to support other inmates.
The appearance of the ex-offender on the programme was to demonstrate that such persons must not be tagged and stigmatized for their past lives to enable them to integrate properly into society.
CCF will facilitate the release of prisoners serving minimal sentences who could not afford court fines imposed on them.
Through its fine-paying scheme, Crime Check Foundation helps to decongest the prisons. The Foundation continues to advocate alternative sentencing regimes for individuals who have committed minor crimes.
