A few hours ago, it was all over the news that Chef Smith had succeeded in winning the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
The whole country expressed their admiration and congratulated Chef Smith for his achieving such a great success.
But, some concerned Ghanaians who hadn’t seen an official communique from Guinness World Record started raising alarm.
The likes of Bongo Ideas sent an email to GWR to confirm if indeed, Chef Smith had achieved the world record. Other people drew attention to the plaque Chef Smith was parading about.
They claimed that the plaque looked fake and accused Chef Smith of throwing dust in the eyes of the General public.
The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 802 hours 25 minutes and was achieved by Ebenezer Smith (Ghanaian) in Spintex, Accra, Ghana. From 1 February to 6 March, 2024.”
Speaking at the news conference, Chef Smith said, “I am deeply humbled and honored to announce that I am now the new world record holder for the cook-a-thon”.
Chef Smith made the attempt after another Ghanaian chef, Failatu, who eventually failed.
Although Chef Smith had not received much support from Ghanaians for his attempt due to several factors unlike Chef Failatu and others who attempted various records, those who followed him were convinced that he may rather emerge victorious.
Anyway, the general public is patiently awaiting an official confirmation from GWR.
