Two mansions belonging to former Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien are reportedly slated for auction as per a directive from the Accra High Court.

According to the Daily Guide, the Deputy Sheriff of the High Court (Commercial Division) mandated the sale on June 12, 2024. The properties in question are located at Stephen Quarshie Crescent, East Legon, and Trassaco, with one of the estates valued at nearly $30 million.

The reasons behind the auction of Essien’s properties remain unclear, and it is not known if it is connected to any legal disputes. Essien began his professional career in the Ghana Premier League before moving to French club Lyon through another Ligue 1 team, Bastia.

At the age of 41, Essien had become Chelsea’s record signing in 2005 when the club paid £24.4 million to acquire him from Lyon. During his near-decade tenure at Stamford Bridge, he contributed to Chelsea’s success in securing two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and the UEFA Champions League in 2012.

In addition to his time at Chelsea, Essien also played for Real Madrid and AC Milan, eventually concluding his career with a short stint at Azerbaijani club Sabail FK.
