Joshua Plante, owner of The Fermented Pig business in Vienna, Virginia in the United States of America, has died.
Plante’s death was announced by his establishment which also revealed that the shop is closed until further notice.
The death of the celebrated businessman has stunned many who knew him and have dealt with him and many have jumped on social media to express to him their condolences.
Others extolled the virtues of the man he was, revealing he was a great person to be around and someone who will be sorely missed.
Joshua Plante, owner of the Fermented Pig in Virginia, passed away, the company announced in a post on social media.
“Dear TFP friends, it is with deep sadness that we share that our founder, Joshua Plante, has died. He was a passionate leader, beloved mentor, and a cherished member of the broader Vienna community. His family expresses their gratitude for your loving thoughts and prayers and request for privacy at this very difficult time. TFP will be closed until further notice,” the post, shared to the official business pages on Facebook and Instagram, read.
The stunning death of Plante sparked numerous tributes from people shocked at the news.

In a tribute, Jen Wilkins praised Plante for his beautiful smile which she said always lit up the Reston market whenever he was in attendance.
She said his snarky comments were a crowd favorite as well.
“The void will certainly be felt, but he blessed us with plenty of fun memories. Reston peace Josh,” Wilkins said.
Another patron, Stuart Shelton, praised Plante as an inspiration for ‘great food and good times’.
“My deepest condolences to the entire Plante and Fermented Pig family �❤️ I will never forget the first time I met Josh when Kaelin was first working for him many moons ago. The brightest smile and warmest heart, he exuded kindness to a “stranger”. May he now rest in peace ✨” said Amy Fannon Cupic.
The kind tributes were all testament to the man Plante was, someone who was a joy to be around, albeit firm in business dealings.
The Fermented pig which he has run since 2018 is a food delivery service dealing in ‘Hand Crafted Bacon, Artisan Sausage, Charcuterie, Local Ingredients & Handcrafted Cuisine’, according to its business page on Facebook.
Plante was also the executive chef at The Fermented Pig at Ovations, located at Wolf Trap.
He also had a near permanent vendor stand during Lovettsville’s infamous Oktoberfest and was mourned by the town over his passing.
