The murder of a prominent Mississippi attorney, Crystal Welch, as well as two other family members – her mother and her sister – by her own brother, has stunned the entire social media ecosystem.
Crystal Lynn Welch, 42, her mother Ida Thomas Welch, 76, and her sister Vicky Renee Welch, 56, were the triple victims of the stunning homicide in Ridgeland in Madison County, Mississippi.
Crystal’s brother, Ivory James Welch III, was revealed by police to have carried out the triple murders on Sunday, May 13th, 2024, which in a rather cruel twist of fate turned out to be Mother’s Day.
Ivory was killed in a shootout with state troopers in Arizona Monday.
The horror all began around 3:30 pm Sunday when Ridgeland Police received a call that a triple homicide had occurred at a home on Old Canton Road.
The officers who were dispatched were not prepared for the horror as upon getting to the residence, they found that three members of the same family had been killed in a horrible manner.
The three family members killed were two sisters and their elderly mother and authorities developed their brother as the primary suspect on Sunday but kept that information under wraps.
According to Ridgeland Police Chief Brian Myers, this was so as not to compromise the investigation to apprehend the suspect.
Ivory James Welch fled from Mississippi following the murders but was tracked down by Police.

Ridgeland Police obtained a warrant for his arrest and the U.S. Marshals Task Force began searching for him.
He was finally cornered by state troopers in Arizona and opened fire on them when they tried to apprehend him.
The troopers returned fire and Ivory James Welch was killed.
“This investigation is a great example of how teamwork in law enforcement, as well as a great relationship with our media outlets, affords us swift justice for a grieving family,” Myers said.
“This horrific event will have a lasting effect on this family, the officers involved in this investigation as well as our brothers in Arizona law enforcement.”

Crystal Lynn Welch, the youngest of the three people killed was a prominent figure in law circles in Mississippi.
She was a law professor at the Mississippi College School of Law and had served as the Mississippi ACLU Board of Directors since 2023.
ACLU MS Executive Director Jarvis Dortch remembers Crystal as an “enthusiastic leader” and a “great friend.”
“She was always asking what more she could do to support our team and our work. Our staff and board will forever be grateful for her commitment to equality and justice,” he said in a statement.
“Her passion for life, infectious spirit, and enthusiasm will be missed…I just cannot process today’s news,” he concluded.
