The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration during a press conference to address international economic disparities, remarked that, “If you think rent is expensive in Ghana, go to Canada and see.”
The statement comes amid growing concerns over rising living costs globally, particularly in developed countries like Canada.
Shirley Botchway claimed that the evidence and comparative analysis she had gathered from meetings and diplomatic engagements with Ghanaians living abroad corroborated her observation.
She underlined that while rent in Ghana may be pricey for some people, it is not nearly as pricey as rent in Canadian cities like Vancouver and Toronto.
Discussions were spurred by the comment among Ghanaians, many of whom expressed shock at the difference in home affordability between the two nations.
Reacting to this, some people bashed her to stop comparing Canada to Ghana as the conditions of both countries are different.
