The Ghana Football Association said that Raphael Dwamena, a player for the national football team of Ghana, passed away at the age of 28 after passing away during a game.

“At this trying time, our thoughts are with Raphael Dwamena’s family,” the group said in a statement.

“Until his untimely death, Raphael gave Ghana his all as a representative and fulfilled his obligations to the nation. Because of his devotion to the National Coarse, we will always miss him.

Although Dwamena’s death has not yet been officially confirmed, footage from Saturday’s play between Partizani and KF Egnatia, Dwamena’s team, in the top flight of Albania seems to show him falling.

Dwamena collapses on the field in a video that was uploaded to X, formerly Twitter, and players from both teams rush to his side. After then, medical professionals responded to him as an ambulance was brought onto the field.

In October 2021, Dwamena suffered a collapse during a Blau-Weiß Linz versus Hartberg Austrian Cup match, but he bounced back and resumed his career.

Dwamena played for clubs in Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, and Spain during his career.

One of Dwamena’s previous teams, Levante, honored the forward.

The team released a statement, saying, “On behalf of Levante, we would like to express our sincere condolences for the death of our former player, Raphael Dwamena.”
