The Accra-London road trip squad did not just get up one day and start the trip – they planned everything a long time in advance.
Wanderlust Ghana, the group of travel enthusiasts who have captured the world’s imagination with their road trip, have revealed the preparations they went through before embarking on the trip.
In a lengthy piece shared online, the group revealed how they made a practice trip to Lome, Togo, to get acquainted with cross border travel.

They have made tons of trips within Ghana but never one outside the shores of the country.
“In deciding to drive from Accra to London, several things come to mind during planning. Key amongst these are the route, the timing of daily drives, road conditions, border crossings etc,” the group wrote.
“Within the last 3 years, we have driven through every nook and cranny of Ghana multiple times and so we can confidently say we know all the roads and their conditions but we do not know enough to properly plan a trans continental drive.
“There’s googlemaps which can always give you bad information and then there’s people who know pockets of localities. A mix of all this information is what we’ve been dealing with till now but it became important to put some of these to a test.”
The group thus tested out the logistics of cross-border travel by visiting Togo, leaving Ghana at the Aflao border but then travelling further north and reentering the country in the Northern part of the Volta Region.
