Transgender Man Gives Birth to Twins

A transgender man in the United States of America, Aaden Darr, has given birth to twins in Charleston, West Virginia.

22-year-old Darr, born biologically female, came out as transgender aged 16. He started taking hormones to transition to male but stopped them after a while after realising he wanted to have kids.

So Darr started a process of artificial insemination to get pregnant. This included five gruelling months of six rounds of intrauterine insemination (IUI) – using donor sp*rm.

He finally got pregnant and delivered twin girls, Quinn and Carter.

“When I realized I wanted a child I thought how I had been brave my entire life and done things people said I couldn’t,’ he explained. “So why not break the gender norms even more if this is something I want to do?

“When I decided I wanted a biological child I immediately stopped testosterone and called the family planning clinic. I had a sperm donor and began the process of IUI. It was hard for me to conceive as they found out I had polycystic ovaries.

“After my fifth failed round of IUI, they told me if the next one was unsuccessful they wouldn’t be able to do another,’ he recalled. “So when they told me it had worked finally on the sixth round it was surreal. The whole office was so supportive,” Darr said.

Aiden gave birth via C-section in April 2021 and is raising the twins with his girlfriend, Claire Behrens, who he met in May 2022.
