Carlee Russell, a woman in the U.S. state of Alabama has been kidnapped after she stopped to help a child stranded on an Interstate.
Carlethia “Carlee” Nichole Russell reportedly spotted the child walking alone down the side of an Interstate, an extremely dangerous activity, around 9 pm Thursday, July 13th 2023.
After spotting the child, Russell called 911 to inform them and then got out of her car to secure the child.
Unfortunately, she then simply disappeared. By the time authorities got to the scene, they found her car and some belongings, including her phone but no sign of herself or the child.
In a press conference on Friday, police said the case remains open and active and a reward of up to $25,000 has been offered.

Russell’s mother, Talitha Russell, told CNN affiliate WBRC that she was working to stay positive during the search for her daughter.
“We are trusting God, we are staying positive, we are not allowing any negative thoughts to enter our minds,” she told WBRC. “So all that we are doing is trusting God, believe in God that our daughter will be brought home safely.”
Russell is 5 feet 4 inches tall and was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, black pants, and white Nike shoes, according to the Hoover police Facebook post.
Police urged anyone who may have seen Russell or who has any information about the case to contact the department.
Carlee Russell is a 25-year-old American woman who went missing on Thursday, July 13, 2023, after calling 911 to report seeing a toddler walking alone on the side of Interstate 459 in Hoover, Alabama.
She is 5 feet 4 inches tall and was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, black pants, and white Nike shoes. She has a mother, Talitha Russell, and a father, Carlos Russell. She also has a brother and a sister.
Her parents describe her as a smart, courteous and kind person who loves to help others.
Carlee Russell worked at The Woodhouse Day Spa in Birmingham and had just finished her shift when she spotted the child, which she estimated to be 3 or 4 years old.
She called 911 and then a family member who lost contact with her, though the line remained open. A witness reported seeing a gray vehicle with a light-complected male standing outside of Carlee’s vehicle, but no further information was available.
Police found her abandoned car and some of her belongings, including her phone, but no sign of her or the child.
A massive search is underway involving local, state and federal agencies, as well as volunteers organized by Carlee’s parents. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for her safe return.
