James Gyakye Quayson, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) parliamentary candidate, is currently in the lead in the Assin North by-election.
According to preliminary results, he defeated Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).
Quayson received 17,205 votes, or 57.4% of the total, while Charles Opoku received 11,389 votes, or 42.0%.
With 85 votes, Sefenu came in last (0.28%).
The official results of the by-election have not yet been released by the Electoral Commission (EC).
However, Quayson thanked the Assin North Constituency residents for giving him another chance on his Facebook page.
Gyakye Quayson received 17,498 votes, or 55.2% of the vote, in the 2020 elections, while Abena Durowaa Mensah of the NPP received 14,193 votes, or 44.8%.
