Snap Black Sherif’s former manager Chavis Wayne recently talked about the impact the artist’s departure had on him and his label. Chavis was devastated by Black Sherif’s departure as the current “Artiste of the Year” at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, given the considerable investment he had made in the musician’s career.
As stated by Chavis in a tweet shared by Hitz FM, “Black Sherif’s exit from my camp affected the label because when you put all your trust and investment in someone and they leave, obviously you will be affected.” This remark captures the emotional effect and disappointment brought on by such a leave, especially when a significant amount of time, effort, and money have been expended.
The admission made by Chavis also reveals a change in his viewpoint and strategy for managing artists. The need for a more transactional relationship has led him to consider the musicians he signs as business partners rather than relatives. This adjustment is probably a reaction to the distress felt when an artist in whom he had a strong investment decides to split ways.
