At the beginning of February 2023, Ghanaians and the world were shocked after a New Jersey councilwoman identified as Eunice Dwumfour was shot and killed.
Dwumfour was shot whilst in her car in front of her home by an unknown assailant. The bullets slumped her onto the steering wheel and she rolled down a residential street unconscious, crashing into parked cars.
Following her murder, police carried out an intensive investigation but remained stumped on finding the killer.
Latest reports indicate one Rashid Ali Bynum has been arrested as the main suspect in the case.
Bynum was a congregant of the Champions Royal Assembly Church – a church both she and the victim attended. Dwumfour was married to Nigerian pastor Eze Kings, the leader of the church.
Police say they used location data from Bynum’s phone to tie him to the crime. It allegedly showed him driving from Virginia to New Jersey, and then back south immediately after the shooting.
He also passed through toll readers in a white Hyundai Elantra—a car neighbours spotted “suspiciously parked” on the evening of Dwumfour’s murder.
